Sustainable, solid-topped Breedlove ECO Collection Lu’au S Series myrtlewood ukuleles feature a resonant core tonewood layer of clear-cut free, individually harvested African mahogany in place of typical tonerobbing softwoods for back and sides. Sharing a Pacific Ocean coastline with Hawaiian koa, native Oregon myrtle has a similar bright ping, but borrows some of mahogany’s depth and warmth for a unique, powerful ukulele presence. Concert ukuleles, developed in the 1920s as a slightly larger cousin to the traditional soprano, are the perfect diminutive musical tool for the hobbyist or the professional. ECOTONEWOOD BACK & SIDES With EcoTonewood, Breedlove makes laminate technology sustainable, introducing a resonant core tonewood layer of clear-cut free, individually harvested African mahogany in place of the typical tone-robbing softwoods used in standard acoustic guitar manufacture. Coupled with Breedlove’s deep research into revolutionary body shapes; building to target tonewood weight adds to the optimized, natural sound of each guitar in the ECO Collection. And, Breedlove creates these better sounding laminate guitars while being kind to the earth while maintaining an accessible, entry-level price-point.
CONCERT BODY SHAPE Slightly larger than the original diminutive Hawaiian soprano, the Concert size is considered by many to be the perfect ukulele. It retains the delightful pingy sound of its smaller cousin, but its longer 15” scale allows for easier fretting, while its marginally wider body provides more tone and volume while still tucking comfortably beneath a strummer’s elbow.
MYRTLEWOOD TOP, BACK & SIDES Popularized by Breedlove, myrtlewood, from the windblown Oregon coast, combines the best elements of rosewood, mahogany and maple—rich bass, warm midrange and clear, bright trebles—for truly versatile guitars.
