About This Listing
Peavey Raptor EXP ... made in China and already set up! S S S pickup arrangement and I can tell you what is already done and yet to be done (if you even care)... These are good guitars and very easy to buy USED in good shape. Very few are set up, as mine are. But you can win!
- Nut slots and neck relief are done as well as pickup height/tilt adjustment. Neck pocket was checked and cleaned and if shimmed, it had very little to be done...
- Nice rosewood-type fretboard and nearly no fret wear at all. And I do NOT like China-made guitars since that is a communist controlled dictatorship. But the Peavey guitars are designed in the USA and made in China and are a real bargain... If already set up and adjusted (about $40-60 in most towns), you save$$ . I learned from the best in Richmond, VA. So I have the tools and knowledge to do all the basic adjustments...
My take is ... Replace the tuners (the stock ones are OK) with Wilkinsons made by JinHo in South Korea for about $25 new. Listen to the pickups for a week before replacing them... they are pretty good ones and I might use a .053 capacitor rather than the usual .047 one to trim off the trebles ... Both are very simple fixes. The pickguard could be flattened in a few places if you even care. I 'blocked out' the tremolo unless you want to get a 'whammy bar' and use it. I do not, but that is my own preference. The photos are poor, but the sticker is 'Made in China' and the neck is 1-piece!
This one is Very clean and all set up! No case, but string tension is let down and it will be well packed for shipping by UPS ...
Did you notice the 2 string trees? Leo Fender used that and the headstock is NOT tilted back like a Gibson, so string trees are needed to ensure correct angle for the strings over the nut slots... And it IS a bone nut!
