About This Listing
Up for sale, a 1979 Greco GO700 Speed Way in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced concurrently with the Ibanez Musician instruments at Japan’s venerable Fuijgen factory, this Greco is an expertly crafted instrument featuring neck-through maple/walnut five-ply construction, with ash body wings and a rosewood fretboard. This guitar is resonant and lively, with a complex acoustic response representative of the various tonewoods; there’s ample articulation and glassy snap, with the midrange heft and authoritative note attack of ash, all translated well through the original PU-3D soapbar humbuckers. These pickups are rich and full, metering at a whopping 15.1k (neck) and 15.8k ohms (bridge), with a particularly vocal, sonorous quality, spongy low mids, and a dynamic feel. This Greco weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple/Walnut five-ply neck through -Shape: Medium C, .850” 1st fret, .910” 12th fret -Fretboard: Rosewood -Fretwire: Medium jumbo, hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-7 -Scale Length: 24 3/4" -Nut: 1 11/16”, bone/brass -Headstock: Ash veneer, brass "Speedway" truss rod cover -Serialization: Stamped on peghead, D79-prefix dates to April, 1979
Body Specs:
-Wood: Ash body wings -Pickups: PU-3D soapbar humbuckers -Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, three-way pickup selector -Hardware: Nickel-plated Tune-o-Matic bridge and tailpiece -Plastics: Speed knobs, ridged surrounds
The original gloss "Dark Stain" finish highlights the grain in the ash body wings, and cosmetic wear is limited to a scant few tiny dings in the body as a whole and faint buckle rash on the back at the bass-side lower bout. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, highlighting subtle figuring in the bass-side maple third.
