1970s Matao MW-405 Jumbo Vintage Acoustic Guitar Spruce Rosewood Hoshino Japan w/ Case

Up for sale, a 1970s Matao MW-405 jumbo acoustic guitar in excellent condition. Made in Japan by Ibanez's parent company Hoshino, the Matao brand was distributed exclusively by Music West retailers in Washington and Oregon. With a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a full 17" lower bout width, this guitar delivers a bold, defined sound with plenty of boom and power to the low end and crisp highs. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Matao has been dialed in for optimal action and strung with 11-50 bronze strings.

The mahogany neck has a soft V profile that grows in girth and roundness as you move up the fretboard. The bound rosewood fretboard retains the original slender fretwire which shows moderate, uniform wear on frets 1-4 particularly beneath the plain strings, with virtually no wear further up the board. The neck is straight and the guitar plays easily up the 25 1/2" scale. The nut is a carved piece of bone measuring just shy of 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original gold Japanese sealed tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

The rosewood bridge sits flush with the spruce top, and all bracing is intact and in structurally sound. The body measures 17" wide at the lower bout and 12 1/2" wide at the upper bout, with a 4 3/4" lower bout depth. The saddle has ample height for future adjustment too. Cosmetically, the guitar shows some assorted tiny nicks and finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss, but no serious or structural wear of any kind and as the photos show the instrument is very clean overall.
